How to Back Up and Restore Your Website in cPanel

Backups are your insurance. Hostingsubidha takes daily backups and stores them on a separate server, but it's smart to keep your own copy too — especially before big changes like a theme update or a migration.

Download a full backup

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Files → Backup Wizard (or Backup).
  2. Click Back Up → Full Backup.
  3. Choose Home Directory as the destination and enter your email to get a notification.
  4. Click Generate Backup. When the email arrives, return to the Backup page and download the .tar.gz file to your computer.
Tip: Delete old backup files from your home directory after downloading them — they count toward your disk space.

Back up only files, a database or email

On the Backup page you can download partial backups:

  • Home Directory — all your website files.
  • MySQL Databases — one .sql.gz file per database (WordPress content lives here).
  • Email Forwarders & Filters — your mail routing rules.

Restore from your own backup

  1. Open Files → Backup in cPanel.
  2. Under Restore a Home Directory Backup or Restore a MySQL Database, choose the file from your computer and upload it.
  3. Wait for the confirmation message, then check your website.
